The 4 questions you should ask when selecting an Asset Management firm

Selecting a trustworthy and knowledgeable Asset Management firm that aligns with your financial goals may seem like a daunting task. The initial search for reputable companies can be overwhelming and suggestions from your network may not fit your specific needs.

In my over 30 years of experience in the industry, I know that the most satisfied clients are the ones who feel listened to by their dedicated team that attend to their unique requirements. To make this journey a little bit easier, I have put together 4 questions for you to ask as you select the right firm for you.

1. Do you need an Asset Management firm or can you do this on your own?

During this discovery phase, you may realise that you can manage your assets on your own and that you might enjoy being completely in control. If you decide that you would like a partner, establish whether you would want to hand over the process entirely or if there are parts you could do yourself. This will guide you in the next step of the process.

2. What are you expecting from your selected firm?

Do your homework. Be clear about your expectations of the selected firm and the specific team that will be dedicated to your account. Understand that different firms have specific strengths, and these should align with your selection criteria for current as well as future needs. Keep in mind that the desire that is driving you to select a firm today may change over the next few years as your priorities shift.

3. What is their track record like?

Once you have identified a few options, you now need to go about finding a partner who makes you feel comfortable. You want to understand what their client retention rate is and who your core dedicated team will be.

4. How do they serve their clients?

Relationship building is crucial to the success of your partnership. In your discussions with the ringfenced firms, establish their communication style and whether that aligns with your expectations. Remember that you dictate the terms of the relationship and that you should feel comfortable. The firm that you chose should work for you and with you.

The right firm will not only assist you in achieving financial security but will ensure that your family will be taken care of for many generations to come.
